When the winds of
Aeolus had stopped to blow, two jewels glistened in the crown of our
Mediterranean : the winding Bay of Kotor, and its cultural,
administrative and trading center , town of Kotor.
|
|
There it has stood and there it stands today . At the foothill of
rocky mountain
Lovcen, on the shores of Bay of Kotor, what builders’
skilled hands started and the passage of time only reinforced.
Like a pearl plucked from the depths of the sea, this town has been
one of the treasures of our spirit and dignity throughout the long
history. More than two thirds of entire cultural treasure of Montenegro
is situated in this ancient maritime
town.
|
|
It is the place from which sailors and
captains – valiant of heart, skillful of hand and eyes lit with
hope – have put out to sea for centuries to bring closer the
world. Their ships carried passengers, transported goods and spread
ideas from all the continents. The accomplishments and fame of the
Boka Marine speak eloquently of such tradition.
|
Despite the all odds, the
heritage upon which Kotor
has raised its glory still persists. Even nowadays, when seafaring
is quietly but surely leaving European coasts, we are still here
where
old Latin saying ‘navigare
necesse est vivere non est neccese’ is much more than just a
phrase.
